New Year, New You?

Chaa Chaa Changes...

In a few days, 2024 will be here, and I bet you are already thinking about how you are going to make significant changes in your life. Most importantly, you're determined to make this year the one that counts. Fantastic, and I applaud you for thinking big.

Today, I will share with you the top five New Year's resolutions people have shared as their goals for 2024. I will detail them to see if they align with your thoughts. In addition, I will also share the probability of success and cover a critical area that most of us miss during this time of resolution.

So, let's look at the survey results I collected through my research. The top 5 New Year's resolutions for 2024 mix personal well-being, financial security, and a

dash of adventure, reflecting the current times and people's priorities. Here they are:

Results

1. Improve fitness and overall health: This one's a classic but always relevant. With 48% of people prioritizing it in 2024 surveys, it seems exercise and healthy habits are high on everyone's minds.

Whether it's hitting the gym, taking walks in nature, or trying a new sport, getting active and taking care of your body is a resolution that benefits you all year round.

Resolve

2. Take control of finances: With inflation and economic uncertainty on most everyone's radar, it's no surprise that 38% of people are focusing on improving their financial situation in 2024. As a result, this could involve creating a budget, saving money, paying off debt, or exploring new investment opportunities. Taking charge of your finances can bring peace of mind and set you up for success in the future.

3. Prioritize mental well-being: The past few years have taken a toll on mental health, and 36% of people are making it a priority in 2024. Consequently, this could involve practicing mindfulness, seeking therapy, setting boundaries, or simply creating time for relaxation and self-care. Investing in your mental and emotional health is as important as taking care of your physical health.

4. Lose weight or improve diet: While not as high on the list as in previous years, 34% of people are still focusing on weight loss or improving their diet in 2024. So, this could involve making small changes like eating more fruits and vegetables, cooking more at home, or reducing sugar intake. Remember, it's not just about the number on the scale but about feeling good in your own body and making healthy choices.

Trying

5. Embrace new experiences: 25% of people want to broaden their horizons in 2024 after years of restrictions and uncertainty. In other words, traveling to new places, learning a new skill, volunteering, or simply stepping outside your comfort zone. Trying new things without fear of failure keeps life exciting and helps you grow as a person.

To sum up, these are just the top 5, and countless other possibilities exist for New Year's resolutions. The most important thing is to choose something meaningful to you that you want to achieve. Remember, it's not about being perfect; it's about having the experience of trying something you've been curious about.

Similarly, let's look at the average success results for these resolutions. To clarify, determining the average success rate for the top 5 New Year's resolutions can be tricky because measuring success depends on individual goals and their definitions. However, here's what I can share about each resolution's success rates based on current research and surveys:

It's only a Number

1. Improve fitness and overall health: Research suggests only 8% of people successfully adhere to fitness resolutions long-term. However, this doesn't mean everyone fails. Focusing on small, sustainable habits and celebrating progress does improve success rates.

2. Take control of finances: Statistics on financial resolution success vary greatly, but studies estimate that 30-40% of people stick to their financial goals for at least a year. Defining specific, actionable goals and utilizing tools like budgeting apps can enhance success.

3. Prioritize mental well-being: Unfortunately, data on mental health resolution success rates is limited. However, studies show that practicing mindfulness, seeking therapy, and incorporating self-care into routines can significantly improve mental well-being, regardless of the "success" label.

More to come

4. Lose weight or improve diet: Studies indicate only 5-10% of people achieve lasting weight loss through resolutions. Focusing on healthier eating habits and overall well-being rather than weight loss can lead to more sustainable improvements.

5. Embrace new experiences: This resolution is inherently subjective, making success challenging to quantify. However, studies show that stepping outside your comfort zone and trying new things can increase happiness, confidence, and personal growth.

Focusing on personal progress and building sustainable habits is more valuable than achieving a specific "success rate." Moreover, the fact that you even attempt any of these goals will lead to your overall well-being in a way that is not measurable through traditional metrics. Therefore, you need only engage in the activity to know whether you prefer it.

Start Looking In

Today's examples are just that: examples of what the average person is considering changing going into the new year. To clarify, if you look at the low success rates, you may conclude that most people fail at their resolutions. Further, you might have tried these approaches in the past and met with little success. If so, I offer a different approach to a familiar resolution.

First, stop looking outside of yourself for what is right or wrong. In my opinion, no exercise program will fix you. That is to say, only you know if you like working out or not. No get-rich scheme will increase your wealth. The simple answer is that money is energy. Fundamentally speaking, it is an agreement of worth and value. When you feel worthy, you'll always be abundant.

Mental well-being is third, but it is always number one in my opinion. How can I achieve abundance before I can accept my worth? Further, how do I feel worthy when I'm sick or broke? If you have the good fortune to release your judgment of the circumstances, you'll see nothing is wrong. Yes, big words; however, you've always had the power in this reality. The final two resolutions are about losing weight and trying new experiences. If you're trying to lose weight for others and not yourself, I'd say don't bother. The only ideal weight is the one that makes you feel the best. Your body is always there to help you attain stasis. If you let yourself feel the sensation of comfort and dis-ease, without judgment, then you'll know what weight feels best for you. As a result, this may be the new experience you've been looking for.

Not everything has to be a grand adventure outside of you. Remember, you were born perfect; you just forgot!

Have a Happy New Year! And I'll be seeing you in 2024.
