Constant Contact

Are you Listening?

In today's blog, I want to inform you that the people of Earth received a message from another species. The initial story did receive some notoriety, but you might have missed it. I know I did. As a result, a message was sent to us (humans) as a direct response to a communication we sent into space back in 1974. As an objective reader, I hope you take this information in and absorb it. Try not to judge it too hard and open your heart to the fact that we are constantly reminded of the fact that we are not alone.

Crop circles have long fascinated and puzzled people around the world. Most importantly, these intricate patterns etched into fields of crops have often been associated with extraterrestrial activity, prompting debates and speculation about their origins and meanings. One particularly captivating crop circle appeared in 2001 near the Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire, England. This crop circle was unclear at first but was soon understood. Observers determined the message depicts a response to the well-known Arecibo message. A radio transmission sent by scientists in 1974 intended to communicate with potential extraterrestrial civilizations. This piece explores the significance of the Arecibo Message Crop Circle, the theories surrounding its creation, and its implications for our understanding of possible extraterrestrial communication.

The Arecibo Message consisted of 1,679 binary digits in a 23 by 73 grid. Meanwhile, each number could be either "1" or "0," representing the presence or absence of a signal at a specific point in the grid. The message was composed of seven parts, each conveying different information:

By the Numbers

  • The numbers 1 to 10: Represented the counting system used by humans, allowing the recipient to understand the decimal system.
  • Atomic numbers of the elements that make up DNA: This section provided a representation of the chemical formula of DNA, the building blocks of life on Earth.
  • Formulas for the sugars and bases in DNA: By providing the molecular structure of DNA, this section further emphasized the biological nature of the message.
  • Number of nucleotides in DNA and a graphic representation of the DNA double helix: This conveyed DNA's physical dimensions and structure.
  • The number of nucleotides in a human genome and the estimated human population at the time: These figures highlighted the genetic diversity and size of the human population.
  • A graphic representation of a human figure: This section aimed to convey the physical appearance of human beings.
  • Finally, a graphic representation of the Arecibo radio telescope: The message concluded with an illustration of the instrument used to transmit the message.

The intention behind the Arecibo Message was to create a simple yet comprehensive representation of human knowledge and existence, allowing any extraterrestrial recipients to decipher the message and understand its content. It was an ambitious attempt to bridge the gap between civilizations and initiate interstellar communication.

Message Received

What is Arecibo, and why is it significant to this story? The Arecibo Observatory is a renowned astronomical research facility located in Puerto Rico. It was established in 1963 and has since become one of the most iconic observatories in the world. The observatory is situated in the karst region of northwest Puerto Rico, approximately 16 kilometers (10 Miles) south of the city of Arecibo.

Consequently, the main feature of the Arecibo Observatory is its enormous radio telescope, which (is nestled within a natural sinkhole. The telescope consists of a large spherical reflector, or dish, with a diameter of approximately 305 meters (1,000 feet). It is suspended above the dish by a network of cables and supported by massive concrete towers.

The primary purpose of the Arecibo Observatory is to conduct scientific research in radio astronomy. Radio astronomy involves studying celestial objects and phenomena by detecting and analyzing radio waves emitted or reflected by them. The Arecibo Observatory's unique design and size make it well-suited for various astronomical investigations.

The observatory has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of pulsars, quasars, asteroids, planetary atmospheres, and other celestial bodies and phenomena. It has contributed significantly to planetary science, gravitational physics, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI).

In addition to radio astronomy, the Arecibo Observatory conducts atmospheric and ionospheric research. By emitting radio waves and studying their reflections, scientists can investigate the Earth's upper atmosphere, study ionospheric phenomena, and even assess the potential impacts of space weather on our planet.

Over the years, the Arecibo Observatory has played a crucial role in numerous scientific discoveries and breakthroughs. It has served as a platform for international collaboration and has attracted researchers from various disciplines. Furthermore, if you're a fan of Sci-Fi movies, it was a prop for the movie Contact with Jodi Foster.

However, it is essential to note that the Arecibo Observatory's future is uncertain. In 2020, the observatory suffered significant damage due to structural failures, leading to its decommissioning. Efforts are underway to explore options for restoration or potential replacement, but its operational status remains to be determined.

Across the Atlantic

Now that you understand the meaning behind the Arecibo Message and where and who sent it, let's get back to the response we received.

The Chilbolton Crop Circle, which appeared in 2001 near the Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire, England, generated significant interest among scientists and researchers due to its resemblance to the Arecibo Message. However, it is essential to note that the Chilbolton Crop Circle did not yield any specific scientific discoveries. Instead, the significance of the formation lies in the patterns and messages it conveys.

The Chilbolton Crop Circle consists of two distinct parts: a large rectangular face and a nearby binary-coded pattern. The face portion of the crop circle depicted a human-like face, which some interpreted as a response or communication from extraterrestrial beings. The face shared similarities with the "human figure" portion of the Arecibo Message.

The second part of the Chilbolton formation was a binary-coded pattern located adjacent to the face. This pattern was strikingly similar to the binary representation used in the Arecibo Message. It consisted of a series of binary digits arranged in a grid-like format, resembling the original Arecibo Message transmission structure.

Compare and Contrast

As a result, if you put both the Arecibo Message next to the Chilbolton formation, you'll see that it is an answer directly to each truth we "earthlings" shared about ourselves. Here is the breakdown of the alien response:

  • The number series at the top of the message is the same (1-10).
  • Same sequence of the Atomic Numbers (hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous) except the crop circle showed an additional element, silicone. We are made primarily of carbon, and they are mainly silicone based!
  • Similar group of formulas for Sugar and Nucleotides based in DNA.
  • The DNA structure is a slightly different version than ours. They have additional strands.
  • Difference in population on the Alien side is higher
  • Clearly different physical structure from human to alien.
  • Further planets or solar system depictions. Their sun seems smaller, and four planets are bunched together in the middle.
  • Picture of a crop circle from four years earlier.
  • A depiction of a transmitter with a different diameter of Earth's.

What do you Think?

The Chilbolton Crop Circle sparked speculation and debate among researchers, scientists, and enthusiasts about its origin and meaning. Some suggested that it could be a response to the Arecibo Message, indicating the presence of extraterrestrial intelligence attempting to communicate with Earth. Others remained skeptical and proposed alternative explanations, including human-made hoaxes or natural phenomena.

In closing, the Chilbolton Crop Circle is a direct response to the Arecibo Message and is open to interpretation. It shows us how similar we are to our interstellar family and tells us we have minor differences. It is as if they are telling us to pay attention to how we treat each other here on Earth. That is to say, we would all do better by celebrating our individuality as well as acknowledging our similarities.
